Top Tips for Travel Insurance
The likelihood is, your holiday will be relaxing, enjoyable and tranquil. However, some holidays will result in the rare case of illness or injury. When this happens you want to feel assured that medical help is there at hand. Travel insurance is a must in case of emergency while you’re abroad, so take these tips into consideration while choosing your insurance policy…
1.
Make sure your policy covers everything you expect it to, such as 24 hour emergency medical treatment and advice, hospitalisation and that you will be able to get home if you miss your flight. Always read the small print.
2.
If you have a pre-existing medical condition or you are pregnant you will be offered a different insurance policy. Make sure you specify any conditions you may have to your insurer, as a normal policy will not cover you in these circumstances. The same goes for if you are likely to indulge in any sports which may seem dangerous, so make sure you tell your insurer before you take out your policy.
3.
Know your limits- insurers may refuse to pay out if an injury or illness is alcohol related. It is understandable that while you are on holiday you let your hair down, but it can cost thousands in medical bills if your injury was caused by overindulgence.
4.
If you are planning to return to the resort in the short future, or are planning a second holiday, take out an Annual Trip policy. This means that the cover you have on holiday will last for a year, so you will be covered for any other holidays you take for the next 12 months. This could save you money rather than taking out a single trip policy.
5.
Most companies offer cover for personal belongings and the loss of money. If you damage or lose a personal belonging you could claim it back from your insurer. The same goes with money; if money is stolen or you lose any, you may be able to claim for it on your insurance. Insurers do, however, cap the amount of money you can claim back, so always remember to check with your provider. Also, if any of your possessions or money are stolen, you must report it to the police, otherwise your insurer may refuse your claim.
6.
Shop around. Most holiday and flight companies will offer you travel insurance while booking, but at the moment the insurance industry is fierce. Compare travel insurance online to ensure you get the cheapest deal. You are far more likely to find a policy which is right for you and save some extra holiday spends at the same time!
