At the heart of the Costa Tropical de Granada, Motril is the second largest town in Granada province. A thriving and very modern town with a pedestrian center which fiercely maintains its heritage and traditions.
It is also an important sea port serving the inland fruit  growing communities as well as the coastal towns and villages.
The beaches of the Costa Tropical are long, quiet and natural set against the back drop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The coast line is rugged in most parts with lots of sheltered coves.
Motril golf course - Los Moriscos - is situated on the coast with both the 1st tee and the "19th hole" right beside the beach.
Motril beach is long wide and natural. It is never crowded even during July and August when the Spanish families come down for their summer holidays from Granada and Madrid.
Motril town is modern yet very Spanish. There are lots of shaded places to sit in the various plazas and outside street cafés. The climate is very mild throughout the entire year on the Costa Tropical.

Motril port has a substantial trawler fleet and a good fish market on the quay side. Because of this fish is plentiful and reasonably inexpensive. The local supermarkets have remarkable fish counters and many local restaurants specialise in seafood.
Motril Yacht Club is situated to the eastern end of the main port. It is a private members club but the restaurant welcomes visitors. The club itself will welcome visiting overseas yachtsmen who show their own club membership card.
There is a reluctance however to accept visitors during August when the club is heavily used by local family groups.
