Beach at La Herradura
Nerja - Balcon de Europa
La Herradura is the most Westerly town on the Costa Tropical bordering with the most Easterly part of the Costa del Sol.
The town is small, and set in one of the most beautiful bays imaginable, The name La Herradura means horseshoe in English which is self explanatory.
The beach is long with a mountain backdrop and is over looked by the peak Peña Escrita. The setting attracts hang gliders from all over the world, the thermal currents allow them to cruise over the coast line for hours, finally landing on La Herradura beach.
This is a wonderful place for those who love the out doors. There is horse riding, walking along the many hill tracks, a number of dive centres, some with training pools, a Yachting Marina, Hang Gliding and so much more.
The natural beauty of this area is protected with the coast line from La Herradura to the next town of Nerja designated as a "Natural Park".
In the Natural Park are some delightful coves with unspoiled beaches including a couple of naturist beaches.
La Herradura is only ten minutes or so from the Nerja Caves at Maro - only discovered in the 1950's these are some of the largest in Europe. Each summer there are live concerts and drama events inside the Nerja Caves.
90 minutes to Granada and a little more to the ski resort of Sierra Nevada
Shopping for daily requirements in La herradura is easy and the nearby towns of Almuñecar and Nerja provide every kind of shop and some good weekly markets. La Herradura has a Municipal market open every week day.
The town has a good selection of restaurants and bars plus some very popular Chirringuitos on the beach.
The yachting marina, Marina del Esté is home to some pretty large sailing and power boats. Yacht charter is available and fishing trips can be arranged.
