Only ten minutes from Motril at the Eastern end of the Costa Tropical lie the coastal resort towns of Carchuna, Torre Nueva, Calahonda and Castell de Ferro. Very Spanish and pretty well undeveloped as tourist resorts. These small towns are known to the Spanish from Granada who come down for week-ends and summer holidays.
The beaches are long, quiet and natural set against the back drop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The costa line is rugged in most parts with lots of sheltered coves.
Castell de Ferro
The rocky coves which are dotted along this part of the coast are excellent for diving and snorkelling.
Castell de Ferro is a pretty little fishing port in the process of "being discovered" by the slightly more aventurous British holiday maker and some who have chosen the area for retirement.
This area is located mid way between Almeria and Malaga airports - about 90 minutes from each.
