Places to visit include: Granada, Nerja, Salobrena, Motril, Carchuna, Orgiva, Alpujarras, La Herradura, Marina del Este, Torrox, Frigiliana and the ski resort of Sierra Nevada.
From the terrace you can hear the waves breaking on the shore of the tiny fishing cove below. You can watch the fishermen launch their little craft and you immediately know this is the real Spain - this is no cliché.
The village house has recently been restored by its English owners to a high standard, carefully and with an eye to preserving its abundant charm.
There are three bedrooms - two are large comfortable doubles whilst the third is a children's single.
The entrance is into a delightful Spanish style hallway which leads to the lounge and large, brand new kitchen. The kitchen is well fitted with all the modern amenities you are likely to need including electric gas hob and electric oven plus a large fridge/freezer. There is an eating area in the kitchen with table and four chairs.
The master bedroom and bathroom are also off the entrance hall on the ground floor making this a very well organised area when occupied by a couple. The upper level has the second double bedroom and the single which open via a hallway, onto the spacious terrace area. The views from the terrace will take your breath away !! South East facing it looks directly to the Mediterranean Sea, along the beach to Salobreña and its Moorish Castle. Look to your left however and there are views to the Sierra Nevada mountains - snow capped from November until May.
This part of Spain has, as yet, been unspoiled by mass tourism. La Caleta is a simple little village with two bars, a grocery store and a bakery shop where you will probably pick up your freshly baked pan barra (baguette) for breakfast. The village has survived for generations by the employment offered by the sugar mill - this is the last cane sugar region in Europe. These days many of the youngsters prefer to take a bus into Salobreña or the nearby town of Motril to seek employment. The villagers here will make you very welcome.
We suggest that a car would be a good idea because there are so many interesting areas to visit including Granada, the world famous Alhambra Palace, the Alpujarras, Motril Golf and of course the Ski Resort of Sierra Nevada. Parking is in the village either above or below the house.
It's only a few minutes drive into the center of Salobreña which is a thriving little Spanish town offering every kind of service. Here there are good supermarkets, medical assistance, lots of bars and restaurants plus a small market on Tuesdays and Fridays.
